T-42

T42 Steels Tool

Mascot Steel Centre is proud  and offer T42 (1.3207) - a proprietary tungsten high speed steel containing 10 percent cobalt. T42 is harder than most high-speed steels and has in addition a reasonably good toughness. T42 is used mainly for tools requiring maximum abrasion resistance and medium toughness.

Applications
  • End Mills
  • Fine Blanking, Stamping, Blanking
  • Gear Cutting, Shaving and Shaping Tools
  • Special Cutting Tools
  • Blades for Sawing Machines
  • Broaches and Reamers
  • All kinds of profile blades for wood machining are manufactured from sheets.
  • For severely stressed tools for fine and roughing work
  • Wood working tools and tools for cold work.
Steel Properties
  • High Toughness & Ductility
  • High Wear Resistance
  • Good Compressive strength
  • High Edge Stability

⚙️ HEAT TREATMENT AND PROCESSES
Heat treatment temperatures & details
Process Temperature (°C) Details
Soft Annealing 800–860°C Heat to 800–860°C, cool slowly in furnace. Maximum Brinell hardness of 300.
Stress Relieving 600–650°C Heat to 600–650°C, hold for 1 hour, air cool. Reduces machining stresses to prevent distortion.
Hardening 1200–1230°C Harden from 1200–1230°C followed by quenching in oil, air, or a warm bath at 540°C. Hardness after quenching: 64–66 HRC.
Tempering 540–570°C Temper at 540–570°C at least twice for 65–67 HRC. Hardness after tempering: 64–67 HRC.
