EN -353

Description

EN353  is a premium quality, case-hardening alloy steel bar known for its exceptional core strength and wear resistance. The term refers to its smooth, shiny, and scale-free surface finish, which is achieved through cold processing techniques like drawing, peeling, or grinding.
Here is a detailed breakdown of its key characteristics:

1. Dual-Core Engineering

The core feature of EN353 is its ability to undergo case hardening (carburising). This process creates a dual-layer structure:
    • The Case (Outer Layer): Becomes extremely hard and wear-resistant to withstand heavy friction.
    • The Core (Inner Layer): Remains highly ductile and tough to absorb shock, vibration, and impact without cracking.

2. High Machinability & Precision

Because it is cold-processed into a "bright" finish, the steel offers:
    • Tight Tolerances: It is dimensionally accurate (often h9 or h11 grade), making it ready for use in automated CNC machines without extra surface cleaning.
    • Cost Efficiency: Reduces tool wear and machining time compared to hot-rolled black bars.

3. Structural Toughness

Enhanced with nickel, chromium, and molybdenum, this steel possesses superior mechanical strength. It maintains excellent tensile strength (800–1100 N/mm²) and high fatigue resistance under heavy cyclic loads.

4. Typical Use Cases

It is highly favored in the automotive, defense, and heavy machinery industries for manufacturing:
    • High-stress gears and pinions
    • Shafts and axles for transmissions
    • Heavy-duty pins, valves, and gudgeons

EN353 Grade Introduction:

We are EN353 Steel Bright Round Bar manufacturers and we are manufacturing from prime quality billets and blooms. The range of EN353 Round Bars which we manufacture for our customers are of high quality and these round bars are used for making machinery and Auto components. These products have been made keeping in mind the quality parameters which have been set by the industry in the market. EN353 Round Bars are always supplied with the test certificates and can be supplied in bulk quantity as well as retail quantity as per customer’s requirements. EN353 alloy Steel round bars are supplied by us to various industries.

EN353 is a very high strength steel alloy which is hardened and tempered before supplying and has nickel, chromium, molybdenum making it high tensile steel strength, with good ductility and wear resistance. With relatively good impact properties at low temperatures, EN353 is also suitable for a variety of elevated temperature applications. EN353 round bars have good internal strength and high external strength, which makes it highly wear resistant. EN353 steel round bars offer good combination of ductility, strength and wear resistance. EN353 is a very high strength alloy engineering steel.

EN353 Grade Application:

Acceptable for many automobile applications such as heavy duty gear, shaft, pinion, camshafts, gudgeon pins.

EN353  Heat treatment:

The hardening treatment for most steels consists of heating the steel to a set temperature and then cooling it rapidly by plunging it into oil, water. EN8 and EN353 steel is an easily available and cheap material that is acceptable for heavy duty applications.

EN353  Hardening:

Hardening °C 780-820.
EN353  Tempering:
EN353 is re-heated  to 780C – 820°C, holding until  the temperature is uniform throughout the section, and then  quenched  in oil, Tempering must be done  immediately while  the component EN353 is still hand warm. Heat to 150C – 200°c , soak it  for 1 – 2 hours / 25mm of section, and then  cooled  in still air. Hardness after Tempering  : 62-64 HRC.
