EN45

EN45 is a high-carbon silicon-manganese alloy spring steel known for its excellent strength, high fatigue resistance, and durability, primarily used for automotive leaf springs, knives, and heavy-duty springs. It offers good toughness and is typically oil-hardened and tempered to achieve superior performance in high-stress applications.

Key Properties & CompositionComposition:

Typically contains Carbon (0.50–0.60%), Silicon (1.5–2.0%), and Manganese (0.70–1.10%), with some variants having lower carbon and manganese, or added boron.
Strength: High tensile strength (800–1000 MPa) and high yield strength (approx. 600 MPa).
Hardness: Usually supplied in hardness ranges between 40-45 HRC.
Characteristics: Excellent elasticity and shock resistance.

Common Applications Automotive: Leaf springs, suspension components.
Industrial: Springs, clips, and high-stress machinery parts.
Tools: Blades and customized knives.

Supply Forms & Heat Treatment Forms: Available as flat bars, round bars, and sheets.
Condition: Often supplied in the as-rolled condition or cold-finished.
Heat Treatment: Suitable for oil hardening and tempering to enhance mechanical properties.
Welding: Considered difficult to weld; requires preheating (200–300°C) and post-weld annealing.

Equivalent Grades
Similar to 55Si7, 250A53, or AISI 5160, although EN45 is generally favored for its superior fatigue resistance
